VB-G RAM G 125 Days Employment: The New Work Guarantee Explained

Quick note: VB-G RAM G stands for Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin). It replaced MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) from 1 July 2026 and now guarantees up to 125 days of wage employment per rural household in a financial year.

The biggest change under VB-G RAM G is the increase in guaranteed employment from 100 to 125 days per rural household per financial year — a 25% rise in the legal work guarantee.

What 125 Days Means for a Household

  • Up to 125 person-days of paid work can be demanded each year
  • Days can be shared among adult members of the household
  • Work must be given within 15 days of demand, or an unemployment allowance is paid
  • At a wage of around Rs. 250-400 per day (state-wise), the annual earning potential rises substantially

Other Linked Changes

  • States may pause works for up to 60 days during peak sowing/harvest so farm labour stays available
  • Works flow from the Viksit Gram Panchayat Plan linked to PM Gati Shakti
  • Funding shifts to a 60:40 centre-state sharing pattern (90:10 for NE and Himalayan states)
